Google Nexus 5 :: Install Stock - Remove All Leftover Files From / After Root

Sep 10, 2015

I would like to completely purge all leftovers files from when I rooted my Nexus 5.

I tried something with another device I own - the Nexus 7 2012 - and that was using TWRP and remove all the files from "/". Of course, it would fail to remove everything (permissions?) and cause the device to freeze, but forcing reboot would allow to enter bootloader and flash everything fresh and lock the bootloader (I used Nexus Root Toolkit). It has not caused any obvious problems.

I was wondering what the best way would be to completely start fresh on my Nexus 5 while getting rid of all leftover files.

Google Nexus 5 :: Root For Stock Kernel On 6.0?

I've been looking around, but I can't find anything to suggest root is available on the stock kernel. CF-Autoroot doesn't work for 6.0, and so far all I've found is root for custom kernels but I want all stock.

Google Nexus 5 :: Is There A Safe Root On Stock 5.1.1 That Doesn't Wipe Data

Google Nexus 5 :: How To Remove SuperSU Without Root

Nov 11, 2015

I bought a Nexus 5 from amazon and when it came in and I set it up, it was like setting up a brand new phone. However, when the setup process was done and I was brought to the homescreen, it had SuperSU in the app drawer. I was scared because I do not want a rooted phone, so I installed Root Checker and that said that my phone was not rooted. However, if I launch SuperSU in order to uninstall it, it gives me a pop up that says that "There is no SU binary intalled" and stuff, and I cannot access the app further than that. Is there any way to uninstall it? (Also, if I go to the google play store to uninstall, it just says that it'll uninstall all updates from this app).

Google Nexus 5 :: Attach Animate Files (GIF Format) In Android Stock Gmail App

Dec 29, 2014

I have questions about animated gif file(s) which is send by Android Gmail as attachment My device is non rooted N5 with kitkat (4.4.4); gmail is 5.0.1 (1642443).

1) Unable to open gif attachment as animated file in gmail, I usually use Quickpic to open gif file in my device and in cloud storage because Gallary dose not work. But in gmail i do not have to option to choose the app, the default image viewer in gmail ( may be gallery ?) dose not display the animated effect. So i have to save the file to my phone or to Gdrive to see the animation. Is there a way to view the animation directly in the email without save the file??

.2)Could i send image files in Android gmail as 'In Line' Similar to the 'insert photo' function in desktop gmail instead of 'Attachment', how?

Google Nexus 5 :: How To Install APK Files

Mar 27, 2014

I have a issue with my N5. I am trying since a week back to install an APK file to my new N5. Ive looked in forums and youtube and dont seem to be able to find a solution to my problem.

I tried to just download different APK installers to my N5 but as they look for the SD CARD and the N5 dont have any it comes up all empty. after a bit of research i found that ES file explorer could do the trick for me, and when i downloaded it i can now find the file with it, but i can not install it. Ive looked at guides that says with Es file explorer i should be able to just double click the APK file i want to install (it comes up as a .zip file) and it should install it for me, but in my case it only opens up the folder and inside i can only find .xml files, no .apk file that i can click on to install.

i found a program called "Wondershare MobileGo for Android" that should do the trick (in another forum thread) but as im at work and i dont have administrator access i cant install anything and would like to be able to solve this problem with just my phone.

Furthermore, is there any full clear guide for rooting from Android 6.0.1?

Google Nexus 5 :: Backup And Restore Without Root

Aug 26, 2015

I'm currently running Android 6.0 DP3 on my Nexus 5 and have to perform a clean flash due to battery drain issues. However, this will make me go through the whole backup and re-setup process again - backup images, backup Whatsapp, backup all documents and download, flash the phone, restore everything, log into the different apps, set up Gmail accounts etc. Obviously, I'm not looking forward to that it's basically also the reason which has kept me from trying different ROMs on my phone in the past. I know that there is Titanium Backup just for that job, but it needs root access and I can't root my phone because this will trigger the "phone isn't secure"-alarm of my bank's super cautious TAN app which will stop it from working (just like using Tasker does, which obviously sucks).

Google Nexus 5 :: Bootloop From Root App Permissions

Aug 30, 2015

I'm not really and expert on flashing stuff on Android. I was pretty comfy not rooting my phone for more than a year. TBH, I didn't really need it, because I was not a power user, but I've recently installed a root app called King User (King Root, etc.). It made things easy for the very few apps I could not use without root permission. However, when I received the latest OTA (5.1.1. security update) I had to disable root authorization in order to install it. So I disabled it using the app's built in authorization setting.

The OTA update failed and gave me the error with the opened up android and the red exclamation mark. So I thought that the app messed something up. Disabling in house did nothing. Uninstalling it did nothing. So I decided to replace it with SuperSU using this guide: [URL] .... After SuperSU deleted KingUser and updated itself the phone remained stuck inside a bootloop. So I figured this replacement process messed up permissions.

My bootloader is locked and I have no custom recovery (because like I said, I just needed temporary root access for a couple of apps and wanted to avoid the hassle). When I enter Recovery mode in default fastboot it gives me the "No command" error (probably because of SuperSU permission).

Now I don't even know if the phone is rooted or not. USB debugging was not enabled last time the phone was on and now I think I'm stuck in this point where nothing works without something else. Doing a full recovery now would probably be asking for a lot, but right now, I would be happy if I could just do a factory reset or something...

I saw a similar post of someone flashing nexus 4 firmware on accident and he fixed it this way, but i think the command lines must be different since his command lines were using nexus 4 directories

Google Nexus 5 :: How To Check Phone Has Ever Been Root

Oct 22, 2015

I have a small question regarding a nexus 5. Is there a way to know if my Nexus 5 has ever been rooted? In my office, we are having a connectivity problem with a nexus 5 and after talking with google they request us to send them the phone. They asked if the phone is or has been rooted which, I guess, voids the warranty. We use the phones for developing software and research proejcts, and I know that some of them some times are rooted, some times use not official-roms, etc.

So despite it looks that the broken nexus 5 is a stock one, I'd like to check it and to make sure that it has never been rooted. Is there a way to do so?

Apparently the Nexus 5 is not rooted: play store apps say so, and the bootloader is locked. Still, I cannot be completely sure that the phone has never been unrooted. Is there a way to check that?

Google Nexus 5 :: Won't Root - Cannot Get Past Flashing The SuperSU

Jan 1, 2016

I tried to root my phone, but I cant get past flashing the superSU.

I am running the latest version of android and I tried both TWRP and CWM.. I get to flash the custom recovery and boot up, but as soon as I try to flash SuperSU the phone gets stuck into bootloop. (also when I use CWM phone automaticly overwrites the custom recovery to stock, I know how to fix this but I must get the root access first though...)

Currently I reflashed factory Images and I am using my phone completely naked only with vital apps. But I am not willing to back down, I would like to find the fix and Root it till the end.

Google Nexus 5 :: SU Binary Exists But No Root Access

Jul 13, 2015

I have a banking app refusing to run since it thinks thatmy phone (Nexus 5 running 5.1.1) is rooted. Only problem is that it's not. Or at least i think so....

I have understood that the banking app concerned checks if the phone is rooted by checking for SU binary in systembin and systemxbin, and fair enough, by xbin contains the SU file. I was rooted on 4.4 (or 5?) using towelroot. The bootloader has been locked all the time. I never rooted on 5.1 and above since I didnt want to wipe, and as it didnt matter much to me.

My questions are

1) Can I restore the root in some way, given that the SU binary exists without wiping the data? I tried Superuser app but naturally it failded to update the binary.

2) Can I delete the SU binary somehow without root access? At this point i only have read access to the systemxbin directory.

Google Nexus 5 :: How To Root With No Factory Reset Without Wiping Photos

Sep 26, 2015

I own a LG Nexus 5 (non rooted), and I've been using this photo app called VSCOcam solely as my phone camera for the last 2 years, and I've taken thousands and thousands of photos with it. The phone has been amazing for the last 2 years but it is time for an upgrade.

So I went to backup my phone and realized that VSCOcam had screwed me... The app has its own internal library so unless you "export" the photos, they are not accessible in /sdcard. Someone in XDA forums had the app and told me that the photos are stored inside "/data/data/com.vsco.cam/files/images" and unless I root I wont have access.

Now heres the cycle of stupidness which I think you all can guess. In order to root -> I need to unlock my bootloader, and to unlock my bootloader -> I need to factory reset!

I've tried just about everything to root my phone without factory resetting, so far none has succeeded.I contacted the devs for VSCOcam and they told me to highlight the photos individually and export...

What should I do? Should I just bite the bullet and lose ALL MY PHOTOS?? The app is currently listed as 12gb in size...

TL;DR - VSCOcam hid thousands of photos in "/data/data/com.vsco.cam/files/images" which is unreachable without root, and to root means to factory reset my phone wiping all the photos I'm trying to get in the first place...

Google Nexus 5 :: Setup Wizard Has Stopped Working (Non Root)

Feb 17, 2014

I got a 32gb Nexus 5 today. I don't have a sim in the phone yet, but I wanted to set it up. I went through the setup process, skipped the sim setup, added my google account, etc.

When it started automatically downloading things, this message popped up saying Setup Wizard has stopped working. I hit ok, and did see the error again. No other issues yet, but just curious about that one.

Is it a google app that needed to be updated? Or is it the fact there is no sim? Like I said no other issues (for the 10 minutes I've used it). Just curious.

Oh and a quick edit - I've done a factory reset and cache wipe.
