Managed to drop my Storm 2 and cracked the screen. All working OK, but bits of glass falling off was about to order a new LCD and noticed there seem to be two versions - version 2 and version 3. Any ideas on how I know which version I should order, or doesn't it matter?
The fist time I didn't get a green dot a good date or a good number as far as I could tell. This time I got the green dot, but the dates are all in 2009. I have been looking for the 3 digit number in the red circle. Can you please tell me were to find these. I a have been up for 20 hours and I have steam coming out my ears at Verizon. I am not going to bother transerfering if it isn't the new phone. They are both refurbished.
Got my new 9550 couple of days back. First day to work, it popped out of my "bold holster" and fell. Now I got a cracked digitizer, LCD works perfectly fine. Went to eBay and got a replacement digitizer. Before I open up the phone, got a couple of quick questions: 1. Do I need to solder the digitizer to the LCD or just plug the cable in? 2. The double sided tape that attaches the Digitizer to the LCD, is that the normal thickness tape (say the one we get in Staples) or something thinner? If you know a brand that fits perfectly, it would be a great help.
Now that Engadget got their hands-on with the Storm 2, even though they couldn't delve into the OS, it is becoming clear that VZW and RIM are trying to push this thing to market sooner than later. It seems that VZW/RIM recognized a flaw in the SurePress screen when it came to dust and the clicking mechanism itself and has decided to go with a traditional capacitive touchscreen instead. But this leaves me wondering one thing, what happens to us origninal Storm owners. We took a leap of faith with RIM in their first touchscreen endeavor and it appears that they are claiming they lost that battle.
I'm sure we have all had a phone for a long period of time before and when it breaks and is covered under warranty, but they can't replace the device because they no longer make it. So, will this happen with the original Storm? If so, will they replace a Storm 1 for a Storm 2 if it is covered under warranty? To me it doesn't make sense that they would keep replacing devices with Storm 1's if they have an intrinsic design flaw. It obviously costs them money to have tech's keep working on devices with the same issues, so why not just bite the bullet and when someone needs a replacement device give them a new/refurb Storm 2? Probably a long shot, but just something to think about.
The date in the battery area is 26210 or something like that. According to other threads after the 2e2nd of February the screen should have been the new hardware. My Storm still has the depressed upper left corner and a workout of a screen press; I don't understand this. I'm replacing my last storm (which did have the new screen) because of service randomly completely dropping to zero bars until I dropped the call I was on, then going back to full service. So, I guess my question is why do I have a new date stamp with old hardware (even had the green dot on the box).
I hope someone can please help me! My new Storm 2 worked perfectly until it fell into a swimming pool. I got a replacement and it works good except when I go online. Things will look quite normal, then randomly there will be symbols strewn in-between and throughout words and sentences. It's very frustrating when I'm trying to look up information for work because I can't read it.
Just got my S2 replacement and upgraded to .428 before I even did the swap devices with the DM, and now this phone is set up just like my last one with all the same apps and it is absolutely killing the battery. I dont know what it could be, I have went through and checked the obvious to make sure it was all good( brightness, 1XEV only, no apps running in the background or updating, wifi off etc). I've lost 10% in less than 20 mins after a full charge. Maybe delete all the apps and reload them one by one again?
I got the storm 2 like 2 weeks ago and I loved it only problems were the back button wouldn't work like 40% of the time and my send button rarely worked. Well after reading that they were replacing them free I went to a verizon store today and of course when I took it in all the buttons worked. Well the guy still offered to exchange it for me. the whole thing took less than a half hour and he gave me a new battery just for the **** of it and the replacement is soo much better! All the buttons work and overall typing is soo much better on it now. I didn't think it would go that smoothly but so far I have had verizon almost 2 years and I have had great service with them since the start. Now I looked at the box and there was no green dot on it or anything and I haven't looked at the date under the battery yet cuz I have been using the phone alot and right now im listening to music but all the buttons work great and the back button dosent click like its on crack everytime I click it.
I will be getting a replacement Storm 2 in the mail on Wednesday(VZW store was out and had to order one). I have a problem with the headphone jack thinking there are headphones in it when they are not sometimes.I was wondering what I need to do leading up to and once I get my replacement? I have used the Desktop Manager Backup program to backup my files. That should take care of my calender, memo, contacts, SMS and any files and stuff on my device....but what about apps. That is what I'm unsure about. How well do those transfer since they have licenses/registration codes?I have bought DynoStorm, Fingerprint Scanner, PatternLock, WeatherBug Elite from App World. From what I have read all I need to do is start App World on my new device and those apps will load on the new device from App World without a problem? Is this true?I have bought BerryBuzz, Call Blocker Pro, Meter Berry, Mileage Meter, QuickLaunch and SmrtGuard(1 Year Subscription) from MobiHand. From what it looks like I can use the Change Device ID and it will generate new codes for me on my new device? Is this all I have to do? Can anybody verify this or tell me what I do need to do for these apps?I have other free apps but those I can just download again. The last thing I'm curious how it will transfer or if it will be a problem is my one theme I have bough Halycon from Elecite. How do I get that loaded onto my new device? If there is anything I'm forgetting to do with backups or apps or anything else I should do before or when I have the replacement let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
I just got a replacement Storm 2 dated Mar 6, 2010. My old Storm worked pretty well but sometimes the bottom row buttons would stick, especially when using the Seidio extended battery with the plastic battery cover. I have a week or so to try both out before sending back the old one.
The new screen feels more... buttery. Its smooth. Buttery smooth. The old screen is clickier. The bottom row buttons on the new screen are a little sloppy compared to when you press the middle of the screen. Does anyone else notice this? I don't like that. But so far the new screen hasn't locked up on the bottom row as much, especially when trying to use it while the Storm is lying on a table.
For typing, the old screen seems just a bit faster, maybe just a bit less pressure required. New screen is a bit harder to type on but smoother. The old screen has a warmer white color than the old, but that is OK the old was fairly "blue".I don't know for sure yet which I like better! But will update here as I find more. If new screen prevents "hard button" syndrome than that's probably enough.
Okay, got some dust under the screen. Not really noticeable except for one spec that catches my eye every time I look at the screen. Really annoying. I don't have insurance. Is there anything RIM or Verizon will do for me?
I finally got an S2 that I'm happy with, then all of a sudden now I have some pieces of dust under my screen! This is annoying me to no end, and I'm over my 30 days exchange policy for the phone. Is there anything I can do, or anyone that can repair this?
1stBB ever and very happy S2 user here.I keep this phone in a mount in my car and use it with my Parrot Blue Tooth system. Is there a way to keep the screen lit all the time? - instead of timing out. If not is there an application that can do this?I know you can adjust Options: Screen/Keyboard/Backlight Timeout - but the maximum is 2 minutes.I use my S2 phone dial pad to dial my contact numbers that are not synced w/my bluetooth. I am not concerned about battery life since the phone is plugged in.
My phone fell out of my coat pocket and landed on my garage floor and shattered pretty good. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a replacement screen? The LCD is not damaged at all, and if I were to have Verizon replace the screen it would be about $120.
Please confirm that the screen is suppose to move on the new storm. I purchased mine at the Verizon store. I don't remember the screen moving that much or at all at store on the display units. But, now that I am back at the office and using it more, I notice the screen moves. I thought it didn't really move that it just sounded like it moves.
I notice on 5.0 (both S1 and S2) when I am on a call, there is a design on the screen that wasn't there before. It is a square on the right side of the screen (just under the volume status) that has a series of dots that start in the bottom left corner and end in the upper right corner.Anybody have any idea what this means? I don't think I've seen it on every single call, but it does seem to be there for most calls.
Has anyone's screen lock functioning weird? Mine some times locks, but the screen doesn't get firm when it locks or , this started this morning, when it locks, the screen doesn't go black. So far a battery pull fixes this, just wondering if anyone has run into something like this?
I would get alot of double clicks. So VZW kindly sent me a replacement unit which had a terrific screen click. I then put a screen protector on it and I started getting alot of crunch. It almost felt like the screen was sticking. On a whim, I removed the screen protector and the screen is once again clicking flawlessly. Very unscientific, but results are results. Could the reduced feedback of electrical impulse due to the screen protector somehow mess with the electronics?
