The progress bar has frozen approximately two thirds the way across. I have removed the battery and done the suggested soft resets but when it startsup the progress bar freezes in the same place.I have now tried the factory reset in the BBDesktopapplication. I get a message saying it is initializing and a small progress wheel is spinning. It has been like this for 6 hours and there has been absolutely no movement on the progress bar.
I want to reset my phone to its original factory settings but the only way I can do it is on my computer, the screen of my bold 9700 is completely white and I was told to wipe the phone clean and redo the OS. How to reset the phone on the computer, as I said, I can't do it on the phone itself.
If I Reset my factory settings will I lose all my blackberry messenger contacts? And is there anywhere to prevent losing them? If I back them up how do I restore them?
I know BBSAK allows a factory reset which disables the firewall. My past three BlackBerrys have been new from the store with firewall enabled. This prevents some apps such as Ubertwitter or Qik from working-- it gives an error about the IT policy (even though there is none)
BBSAK disables the firewall yes, but as soon as you reload your backup, the IT policy reloads itself. So my question is, when you load your backup, how do you selectively UNSELECT your previous firewall settings? Which option is it? I don't want to have to manually put everything back again.
If anyone knows how to disable the firewall WITHOUT erasing all my personal stuff, I'd appreciate it. And no this is not a BES phone, there is NO it policy, it was not purchased used, etc etc.
How can I restore my blackberry bold 9700 back to factory settings? The phone has a mind of it's own, only some buttons are working and it keeps turning itself off, calling random people and so on and it's only been since the last update it did.. need to restore.
Regarding a problem with password on my 9700 Bold:
I have had a four digit Phone Lock on it for months, always the same, was operating the phone the same as usual one night, and the next morning, it wouldn't accept the Lock Code.
Entered the Password 7/8 times, then thought I had no choice but to let it reset itself, entered in the same Code, and it accepted it.
I didn't want to go through that again, so I went to Password Settings to remove the Password requirement, and it started all over again, not accepting the Same Password with which I had just unlocked the phone!
Fortunately, I have Backed up my phone in case it did get Wiped, but I would have lost some info that had been entered in between Backups, so I hoped I could get this resolved With Out the phone needing a Factory Reset.
The 9700 asked me to enter "blackberry", and I noticed that there was a tendency for the letters to jump to Upper Case quicker than I was accustomed to seeing it do.
As I have been writing this, I remembered that I had changed the Cursor Speed to Fast, so now I'm going to type in the password as quickly as I can, so I can be as certain as possible that it goes in as 'lower case' only, which, because of the characters being immediately changed to ****, I could not detect before.
Problem Solved!
I just breathed a Huge sigh of relief.
The phone has now been set back to the Original Cursor Rate, and the Phone Lock has been removed.
Security is important in case the phone is misplaced, so I set the SIM Card Lock instead, and at least if the Password gets messed up again, I can get a PUK Code from at&t, and unlock the phone that way, without the risk of wiping out all my contact information, calendar dates, and other personal settings.
I hope this information might be helpful to someone else, and I'm looking forward to learning more on this site.
Before I get jumped, I looked through the related threads and cant find anything helpful that has been posted within the last year. Not saying its not out there, I just couldnt find it.

I am ready to return the phone and go back to BB 9700. The Torch is great, but it's lagging too much and I have to pull the battery everytime I need to use GPS, otherwise, I won't get any GPS signal.
It's just my personal reference, I like the 9700 better.
Is there a way to really reset the BB to the factory settings?I am running 5.0x firmware, and the Options/ Security Options/ General Settings/ Menu/ Wipe Handheld function is not present anymore! (I saw it when I had 4.6.x..)So I tried this (from Mac, as on XP I can't locate the loader.exe file): http://www.blackberry.com /btsc/ search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB18998 but it actually did not really clean my BB, it kept for example all the apps I installed which are the reason why I would like to reset the BB! it also kept the 5.0.x firmware, while when I got the BB it had the 4.6.x firmware. I really would like to go back to the original status. any suggestions?

I have just updated my Xperia 8 to 2.1 (eventually, because I use a Mac ) and can now no longer get the phone to connect to my home internet which it was happily doing untl that point. (Backed everything up & successfully restored all my other info / settings)I have reset the modem to factory settings, rebooted all the various equipment which all reconnected with the code. I type in the same code into the phone & it tells me that the code is incorrect & then that WiFi is 'disconnected'. So far, I have not been able to get to any access points for other free WiFi, so dont know if this is a general fault.
I have a nokia E66. Everyone says go to options - security options - general options - wipe handheld.
When I go to security options, all the options I have are: Advanced Security Options Encryption Firewall Information Security Wipe
I have been reading that the security wipe won't get rid of everything. When I go into security wipe, it says if I wipe "Emails, Contacts, etc." you will not be able to send or receive email on the device after you wipe it.
Does that mean on this phone ever again, or just from the email addresses I am wiping?
